Monument History

The area was first settled in the 1860s with the town of Monument being incorporated in 1879, the surrounding areas of the Tri-Lake region were also being established during these times as well. Monument was first named "Henry" Station after Henry Limbach, one of the early settlers and the first mayor. The first settlers and developers of the area took notice of the surrounding wonder of the land and made that one of the main focus points about living in Monument and the Tri-Lakes area. That natural beauty and splendor can be yours in this sleepy mountain town and that sentiment began to spread to others across Colorado and the nation as well. The entire Tri-Lakes area has always been a getaway for people from the eastern United States; Monument was included in that tourism boom as well.
